Canadian Modernist painter Robert Austin Scott was born May 16, 1941 in Melfort, Saskatchewan. He completed his initial studies at the Alberta College of Arts, receiving a diploma in Applied Arts in 1969, and received his Master’s in Visual Arts from the University of Alberta in 1976. Following his graduation, Scott taught art, notably as a sessional instructor with the University of Alberta’s Department of Art and Design until 1991.

He has exhibited extensively throughout Canada and internationally, and has received numerous awards. Scott has attended many workshops internationally. He is also a passionate social advocate; particularly contributing his efforts to upgrading skill sets in the developing world.

"Edmonton painter Robert Scott can be placed within the modernist tradition of abstract painting. His thickly painted acrylic images are personal, expressive and energetic, as he continues to probe the emotive potential of his materials - paint on canvas or paper." - Edmonton Art Gallery, 1993 (now The Alberta Art Gallery)
